Connor McDavid Named NHL's MVP

Edmonton Oilers star Connor McDavid won the Hart Trophy as NHL's MVP, becoming only the second player in the 97-year history of the award to win it unanimously.

McDavid placed first on all 100 ballots from the Professional Hockey Writers Association. Previously, only Wayne Gretzky won the Hart unanimously back in 1981-82, also with the Oilers.

Carl Gunnarsson Retires After 12 NHL Seasons

St. Louis Blues defenseman Carl Gunnarsson announced his retirement Wednesday after playing 12 NHL seasons and scoring one of the biggest goals in that franchise's history.

After hitting the post late in regulation in Game 2 of the 2019 Stanley Cup Final, Gunnarsson memorably told Blues coach Craig Berube in the bathroom at intermission, "I just need one more." He scored 3:51 into overtime to tie the series against the Boston Bruins, on the way to the Blues winning their first championship.

Lou Lamoriello of the New York Islanders has won the Jim Gregory general manager of the year award for the second straight year, adding yet another keepsake to a stellar career.

The NHL announced Tuesday night that Lamoriello finished ahead of fellow finalists Marc Bergevin of the Montreal Canadiens and Bill Zito of the Florida Panthers. Colorado's Joe Sakic was fourth and Vegas' Kelly McCrimmon was fifth in voting by GMs, league executives and media members after the second round of the playoffs.

J.T. Brown To Retire As Player, Join Kraken As TV Analyst

J.T. Brown is retiring from professional hockey and joining the expansion Seattle Kraken as a television analyst, the team confirmed on Monday.

Brown, 30, played seven years in the NHL from 2011 to 2019 with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Anaheim Ducks and Minnesota Wild, for a total of 365 games. He played last season with IF Bjorkloven in the Swedish Hockey League.

Panthers' Aleksanbder Barkov Named Best Defensive Forward

Florida Panthers center Aleksander Barkov has won the Selke Trophy as the NHL's best defensive forward for the first time in his eight-year career.

Barkov was announced as the winner of the award Friday night before the Vegas Golden Knights faced the Montreal Canadiens in Game 3 of one semifinal series. He was a finalist for the first time.

Rod Brind'Amour Named NHL Coach Of The Year

Rod Brind'Amour of the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday won the Jack Adams Award for NHL coach of the year as voted by members of the NHL Broadcasters' Association.

"This is a great honor to even be thought of in this category," Brind'Amour said. "There's not a coach in this league worth his weight that would say it's about him. Winning this award is an organizational award, and I'm really proud to be accepting this on behalf of this organization."

Cancer survivor Oskar Lindblom of the Philadelphia Flyers has won the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy for perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey.

The NHL announced Lindblom as the winner Tuesday night before Game 2 of the semifinals between the New York Islanders and host Tampa Bay Lightning.
